What this pull is protecting
A gentle inquiry into avoidance as self-preservation.
Before reading, take a breath.
Nothing here is meant to expose or undo you.
Only to understand.
In the previous inquiry, you were invited to notice what pulls you away from presence.
Distraction. Restlessness. Thinking. The urge to move on.
This reflection looks at that movement differently.
Not as resistance —
but as protection.
Inquiry
Bring to mind the pull you noticed most clearly.
Then, gently ask:
What might this movement be trying to protect me from?
Not intellectually.
Not with a story.
Simply notice what arises when you consider the question.
It might be:
- Discomfort
- Vulnerability
- Stillness
- Emotion
- The feeling of not knowing
- Or something harder to name
There’s no need to push closer.
Just acknowledge what’s there.
Avoidance often begins as care.
As an attempt to keep us safe.
Seeing that can soften something inside.
